Subject: How to pick a new saddle

Hey guys and ladies--

I'm not really looking for a new saddle yet but I was curious as how to "try" them out if you have to buy them to actually try it out?  Any pointers or tips on choosing the right seat?

I have asked this question as well several times with members of my bike club and so on and basically what I have found out is you just have to try them so you might end up with a stockpile of saddles but maybe some of the wiser BTers can help shed some different light.

My LBS is pretty cool in that they help me assess what kind if seat I'm looking for, then they install it and have me try them on my bike while racked on their trainer. If I'm not sure they make me narrow it down to two seats and I can take them home for no more than two days (no riding in the rain or they're both mine).

See if your LBS can help you narrow them down. If they don't have it in stock then you're a bit out of luck. Usually first hand experience is the only thing that can help you there. Good Luck

I'm thinking about a new saddle at the moment - don;t have the luxury of an LBS with lots of stock - I have to buy via the internet.

I am considering the ISM Adama, so will have to rely on the perception of others :-(

first you must size up your horse, and then also try out several different saddles to see what is most comfortable.

The saddle companies will give LBS for you to test ride. Do not buy a saddle without trying it out first. Most LBSs have several different kinds in stock.

Go to a well-stocked shop -- not necessarily well-stocked with saddles to buy, but with bikes set up for test rides. And then take a lot of bikes with a lot of different saddles for a lot of test rides. Then buy the saddle that most closely resembles the one that felt best in the tests.
