Not too early to start thinking about it, since you have to sign-up the day after THIS year's races.

Lake Placid probably for me in '07 (IM WI this year)

Alright Alright.  Point taken.  I do have a year's time to invest into learning how to properly ride and gear my bike, although I could give IMOO a go on a single speed.  That would be hardcore (read as-stupid).  I also have a year to invest in a pair of proper bike shorts- but just maybe.

Seriously...I just might have to do this.  Did I meantion that?

So now's the time to start thinking about what IM event to do NEXT year. What are all of you planning?

I'm going to do ALL the IM events next year.

Sitting on my couch, beer and chicken wings close at hand, watching every last minute of the television coverage of all the races.

what? It's a plan, dammit.

I'm torn. I want to do IMAZ cuz it's close, but I want to knock out this year's CDA before I sign up for next year's race, so that leaves AZ out. I'm thinking Lake Placid, Moo, or Silverman. I'm thinking of doing Silverman this year. Two IM in one year? I must be losing my mind.

Definitely IMAZ.  It will be my first.  I'll be welcoming in a new decade (my 30's) with this race.

I too am welcoming my 30's with an IM........

Retired from IM distance until my kids get a little older. It takes too much time away from home to prepare properly. Focusing on HIM and the 70.3 series (Clearwater '07)

Since my kids would have to all be in school for me to have time to prepare for an IM and my baby just turned 1 last month I think you can defnitely pencil me in for IM-somewhere or other 2010. Seriously though, I do think I would try to do one once the little one is in Kindergarten.

I am planning an IM for 2007, AZ or CDA....

I do have a question:

How much is the entry fee for an IM race, and what is the cost differance (cost and support) between an Mdot and non Mdot race?

Thanks

I believe '06 entry cost was @$435 (plus active.com fees).  Most non-Mdots are a bit cheaper, but most of the savings are the costs around the race.  No hotel minimum stays/sold-out lodging, etc. for non-Mdots.  Support is typically good at non-Mdots from what I gather, but there are fewer volunteers and spectators as a result of far fewer athletes (a couple hundred vs. a couple thousand).  The non-Mdots are much more low key productions.  You're more likely to feel "on your own" at a non-Mdot.  Whether that is good or bad is individual.

MDot races are $400+ but the support is amazing. I highly, highly recommend doing an MDot for your first IM. The independants are cheaper but generally don't have as much support. Those are generalizations, each race has their problems however IMNA has been putting on IM's for so long that they have it down to a science.

Lake Placid is so tempting. Need to see how my half ironman goes for one. Also need to figure out how to fit in more time on the bike, as I am at about my limit in terms of running (until I get faster) and I don't need to swim more than I am now as it is by far my best sport of the three. We will see what happens.

I am pretty sure I will be signing up for IMWI 2007!!!!!

July 30th will be my first half.... and then I think I will feel more confident for IMWI!!! And it is closer then all the other IM.....

Sounds like a lot of people might be doing IMWI...That would/will be a fun time...

OOOHHH!  We really should get a bunch of members together and choose a single international IM race to do.  We could storm the beach and show the whole world that BT comes to win.

I thought about doing IM UK, simply b/c it never fills up, but I scrapped that plan b/c there would be no local family/friends/BT support group to cheer me through the race.

Torn..... depending on how my training goes this year... and how well I develop this year, and how I like the Half distance...and what my training partners are going to do.... it's looking like IMWI either 2007 or 2008.....

I have already talked to a friend about IM Brazil sometime.  He is marrying a Brazilian woman this summer so we can make it a nice vacation too.  Oh yeah, FLAT bike course.

If the Kona people ask nicely and offer to fly me over I might do their race.  Otherwise it's CDA again (if the boss oks' it).

Wisconsin for me for sure....I'll get the most jock strappers there..all my friends are with me in Chicago...family in Iowa and Chicago.

I'll probably volunteer this year as well...I have a 5K swim the day before so if my shoulders don't explode I'll be in madison....
