Subject: Sodium and Training
Ok, this question is to clarify the effects of the Sodium (in general, foods, drinks, etc..) in training.

Some people told me that the Sodium make the body retain water and you will get dehydrated faster.

Any one here knows about this stuff? Thanks....

Sodium is lost is sweat. So if you are working out and sweating a lot you can get sodium depleted. Different people sweat out a different amount of sodium. Sodium loss is highly correlated with heat related muscle cramps. In fact people who are prone to cramping lose more sodium in sweat than those who are not prone to cramping. So making sure we get some sodium in our diets is important either through food or sports drinks. Also lots of fluids. Dehydration can affect perofrmance at a mere 3% fluid loss. You aren't even thirsty at 3%.
