I'm saving up for a fluid trainer, and am making do with an old wind trainer someone gave me. It has a big screw that you tighten to bring the rolle rin contact with the rear wheel. I'm wondering if anybody can tell me how tight this is supposed to be adjusted?

Thanks!

I just play around with it until I'm riding in the same gear that I normally would on a flat.

I've never used a wind trainer before but if it's like others you want enough force so that the tire doesn't slip, any more and you start to eat up the tire.

The fluid trainer manual said that, turn it until it touched the wheel and make 2 1/2 turns. too tight n u wear off the tire fast....

I was told once that the trainer should slip a bit when you first start up. As the tire and roller get warmer they will have better traction and hold. That way you get the least tire wear. A bit of slippage on the cold tire at first is nothing compared to the extra pressure on hot rubber for the rest of the workout.
