FYI - the good old myth that a bike might not fit you is pretty much a way to sell custom bikes. MOST bikes will fit anyone.

He might not particular like the brand/model but I think Rick is making a great effort to help a fellow BTer and I think Joel will be touched and excited to learn that friends are coming together to help him out in that way REGARDLESS of what they are considering to donate. in particular a $$$ bike like that. (I know I would) Plus Katie mentioned the bike wasn’t looking good hence I think it is the bike proposal. In any event I am IN for donations and any way I can help…(Rick, send me your paypal account to keep this rolling)

you guys are evil....

Here Joel....  we feel bad that you wrecked your bike and are bound to a cast and wheel chair for a few months, so here's a brand new P-3 that is yours but you can't ride.  Have fun waking up every morning and staring at it.

 Sheesh....

Once we figure out what we're doing, I'll be in

Yeah -- I'm an "in" with reservations -- let's get some more ideas on the table, then get some communication with Yellowk8t or somebody, before we go running off half-cocked. I always like to be fully cocked.

Wait, that last thing didn't sound right.

Anyway, let's get some more info, get a plan, and then I'm willing to donate.

To reiterate, no one is trying to take away from Joel or Rick for his efforts.  It's just that there are a lot of different ways to do this.  But I think we can plow ahead with the fund.  If Rick is willing to take on the burden let's get the fund going.  For example, if we decide that he can get a bike and we'll raffle it off and Joel can use the money for what he wants, then Rick can divvy up a person's early contribution into shares of raffle tickets later.  That's just an example of how it can be worked out, not saying that's what we should do.

Rick - like you, my paypal has been empty for a while so I'll restock it and then get in on the fund - probably next week.  I don't even remember how to fund the account, I'll have to do some reading.

Thanks again for getting this going, let's just communicate with Joel and see what he wants once he's able to get on BT.

Hey, there's a thought, think of how much time he'll spend on here while waiting to be able to start rehab.  I'll bet he becomes a COJ junkie addict - like, um, the rest of YOU!

heh.

Great idea Rick.

FYI I got hit by a car last fall....driver's fault. New bike from her insurance was easy.
Wholesale costs with Rick's contacts will make that insurance check go a lot further though.

What about a gift certificate? That way, it would still show the support from BT and he could get what he wants.

I'm sure that Katie will also take care of this, but I will personally ask him.  I am going to go visit him in the Hospital when I get off work today (Friday).  I am also going to talk to the Final Kick people (Local Tri/bike shop) that he trains/runs for.  The owner is an awesome guy and maybe we can get some hookups there too.

Can't hurt to ask.  I'll post any comments and maybe a picture of him when I get it.

Yes, paypal is up and active for this. I'll give the address again:

[email protected]

Like I said, this can just be the start of the donation fund and then we'll see how to work with it. Let's fill it up guys and gals!!

Also, if someone doesn't have Paypal, or doesn't want to do things electronically, p.m. or e-mail me for my address and you can send something snail mail and I'll load it up into the account.

Another thing to do may be to ask for donations from your training partners and/or at your work place and see if we can come up with more resources.

Had another donation, but not quite that out-pouring that I would expect from the BT'ers.

Joel is back online now and as positive sounding as you can be at this point, which is great news.

Is any further direction available from K8T or marvanet? I doubt Joel will chime in, even though he's back on the board. Nice to see you back so quickly! Post photos of your x-rays!

Hi everyone.  I feel a bit weird posting on this thread.  At this point I honestly don't know what I'll need.  I assume I'll have some medical bills left over after insurance and my bike needs some new parts at the very least...not sure if the frame is okay or not.  I definitely can't accept anything big from you all though...it's just not necessary.  I'd like to think that the driver's insurance will cover my expenses but that assumes we find her and she actually has insurance...big unknowns at this point.  I've got plenty of sick leave so missing work isn't an issue.  I'll update you all once I have more details on the investigation.

Thanks so much for the support!

Yes, (Atkinson). He's the coolest big brother in the world, isn't he? I helped him a little in the beginning with the site, and then he got a dog friend to help with the forum BB. It's the dog training equivalent of BT!

Here's a pic of the 3 legged dog. Look carefully at his back end and you'll see one leg is missing!

Joel -- you get what you get.  That's the power of a group -- individually we're small but together it's huge, so take it for what it is!

Adventure Bear.

Way Kool, give Chris a hug for me and tell him thanks. Give 'ol tripod a hug as well, I have a yellow that looks a lot like that.

I have a well mannered friend/ running/hunting partner due in large part to his site. My doeg also has more titles than I do and I can trace his heritage back a lot further than mine...so hopefully some of that will rub off on me someday..... small world
