Such a beautiful, warm spring morning for a nice long bike ride, but all the glass on the road made it impossible. I had two flat tires, and ended up having to call my husband since I only had one tube with me. Bummer! Do people purposely break their glass bottles in the bike lane??

Sorry to hear about your ride.  I find that around here, the drunk college students do throw stuff in the bike lane.  Jack@$$es.  I try to ride out on the country roads, but then I get chased by dogs.  See craziness on the bike thread for that story.

The areas of the bike path that I ride tend to have some glass, I try to avoid it but I know I run over some.  When you see that you are heading over glass take your foot and run along the tire, that might dislodge some of the glass you pickup.  If you are riding the path alot get some kevlar tires, they are WORTH every dime.  It will not prevent every flat but it will help stop a few.

Our bike path goes along two areas that are pretty run down, and everytime I ride it I get frustrated that some idiot thinks breaking glass on the bike path is a great pasttime.  I know someone must sweep the path at some point.  I have thought about taking a broom and sweeping the glass off but have not done it yet.

I would also carry a patch kit, that might help some as well.  Did you make sure to get the glass from the first flat out before putting on the new tube?  If you didn't it might have been the same glass giving you both flats.

Yes, I got the glass out, but one of my tires was sliced pretty bad. I'll be spending the extra bucks on the kevlar tires. My birthday is this week...guess what I'm asking for!
