Hello. I just found this site the other day. I am a finisher of Triathlons. Finishing a triathlon is a joy in it self.
I am 34. I have a 2-year-old son and a supportive wife. I love biking and swimming and I run because that is the only way to get to the finish of a triathlon. In 2001, I completed my first sprint triathlon. I then progress to two Olympic races in 2002 as well as a Marathon. In 2003, I finished a ½ IM as well as two IM races.
I was part of an email triathlon club in my area that has decided to move to the next level. This means dues and a more organized structure. I do not have an interest in improving my times or getting serious enough to have a trainer. One of the most fulfilling parts of this has been just doing the training on my own with the help of others doing the same so we can share our experiences with each other. I also have to add that one of my brothers did both the IM races with me and it was very cool to be abel to do that togehter.
For me a race is a bookmark in time that consists of a story that got you there. A finish time means very little to me. The story that goes with that time is what I love to read about and share with others.
I look forward reading and sharing some great stories with all of you.
:-)

I too enjoy the journey and have completed 4 sprints - some solo, some with aquaintences from the gym and finally one w/ my brother in law. Each was rewarding in their own way. Here's a little story from one I hope you enjoy. For our race together my bro in law pick-ed up some biking jerseys that read "Old Guys that got FAT in the Winter Racing Team" emphasis on FAT! Well about w/ about 3/4 of a mile to go in the 3 mile run a women comes up from behind me and says "C'mon old fat guy, I'll see you through to the finish" We both had a good laugh, then she proceeded to push the pace and lo and behold I finished w/ my best time! Still chucklin I thanked her for the inspiration! The comaraderie of this sport is what makes it unique. I hope you cintinue to enjoy the journsy. Rgds, Mark

That is a great story. "Old Guys that got FAT in the Winter" is a great team name.
The camaraderie between triathletes is great. I did an out and back run for one of my triathlons and the support from everyone come back was wonderful.

My pleasure thnx for the kind words. Tortoise, mine too are out and backs and I think they are great for that reason. In fact, one year there was a woman doing the run with the aid of crutches. I assumed she had MS or something similiar. I remember hurting as i passed her and just thought to myself , if she can do this I've got to block out any "pain" I may feel. On the return I (and almost everyone around her) clapped and encouraged her. What an inspiration! To this day I always tell people that the variety of people you see at these events is amazing and this woman of course stands out above all. Although I aspire to do an olympic ditance this race keeps providing lasting memories and so i return next sunday!
