Subject: Training in trisuit
So I have my first tri (sprint) in early June. I want to get used to swimming/biking/running in a trisuit. (I think I will get one of those standard issue one-piece ones with a sports bra underneath). Do you think I would look funny if I bike and run in those on the trail? What about swimming (indoor) then biking (indoor) in a trisuit?

Oh, if there's any tips for first time tri, I would love to hear. Thanks!

I am in a similar position, currently training for my first TRI (July). But I never think of what other people think when they see me training. I don't have the type of body to be walking around without a shirt (218lbs, down from about 240). But on my last training run I decided to just pull off my shirt and finish the last mile as comfortale as I could. I realize that most of the people that see me training, have no room to talk. And if they did decide to say something they better try to keep up, I'm not stopping to talk.

So I say if anyone expresses anything negative, a quick GFY is theraputic. Don't let anyone stop you from training, even if it is in a TRI suit.

Keep up the good work,
Adam

When it comes to trying to swim and ride indoor in the same clothes... well, tri-suits are your best choice.... that's what they were designed for...

Wear what is comfortable... I love the idea that - it's not a beuti contest....

Best advice for a first triathlon... Have fun and don't over think this sport.

It's a only a month away and I am nervous already! I personally have to practice all these, in addition to normal training:

1. Swim/Bike/Run in a tri suit (ergo, this thread)
2. Bike in bike shoes with cleats
3. Being able to drink while biking
4. Swim in OW in a crowd
5. Transitions (remember to rinse my feet)

Dont forget to practice changing a flat, or atleast know how to. I'd hate to see anyone train so much and get a DNF for not knowing how to change a flat or having a spare.

First things first...remember the rule of 3.  Don't use anything in a race you haven't used at least 3 times during training.

Priority #1 is feeling comfortable in what going to affect you the longest during the race.  That's the Trisuit.  I wear mine about once a week for my "long" workout the month before the race.  Generally those are brick workouts or on any long ride followed by a short run (this should be EVERY bike ride)

#2 Priority is getting use to those clipless pedals.  Keep your bike on the trainer and watch TV just spinning.  This will get you use to haveing them on your feet.  I even practice getting them on while riding this way.  It's fun if you incorporate commerical breaks like that.  When a commercial comes on, you run to where your bike is on the trainer, with the shoes clipped in, and practice getting your feet in while "riding".  Then you make it back to the TV after 1 min of riding adn watch your show.  Just an idea.

Since it's your first race, don't worry too much about the transitions.  Being comfortable on your bike and in your suit will gain you more time than forgetting to wash your feet off.

Just my Humble opinions.
