So I was a NB 1063 guy. I mean that is my shoe right. I got 4 of those shoes in the rotation right now in various stages of disrepair. BUT, I have found a new shoe. A lighter shoe. I shoe I run faster and smother in. It is a better shoe for me. I now love the Kinveras. I want to buy them in all the different colors they come in. I want a different pair of Kinveras for every day of the week. But what to do with my old 1063s. They are good shoes, not as fast, not as light, but good for my feet, never injured me. I want to let them go but I can't. They were good to me, my first shoe after the NB 880, brick that that was. All that AND 2 pairs have under 300 k on them...miser that I am I can't let those go.

Anyone else have difficulty letting go of old gear with miles left in it when you found something else that is better?

First, I think you should learn how to spell the name of the new love of your life correctly. After that...it's up to you. ;-)

Your substandard is someone else's high standard.  Pay it forward.

Our home burned to the ground in 1997, we lost everything we owned.  We now refer to things we no longer use as FUEL...and promptly throw them out.  You'd be amazed at how unsentimental you get about "stuff" after you lose it all but nobody gets hurt.

But yeah, "pay it forward" is always cool.

Shimano 105 5700 group is an amazing group. Better than TdF riders were using just what? Seven years ago. Ten for sure. And my buddy just ripped all the brand new 105 off his bike because it's "low grade cheap stuff" . I don't like this.

So no, don't throw the NB1063s out. Keep training on them, and race on your Kv's.

Or...

I like the idea about pay it forward. Check out Soles4Souls. They will get your 1063's onto the feet of someone who is going barefoot otherwise. Yeah... I like that better. Souls4Souls. Can you imagine being the kid who is barefoot one day and has new-ish NB's the next. I like that a lot. (Me? I'm tryin' to wear down these 1064's so I can get on to some 890s or something else lighter...)

Check with teachers or coaches in your area.  A teacher in our neighborhood taught PE and asked for usable running shoes and even t-shirts because the kids in his class didn't have shoes or clothes that were even slightly appropriate for a workout.  Someone can get the rest of the life out of your shoes.

I am in the same place and I am using the other shoes for training.  They won't last forever.   Then I just appreciate the Kinvaras more when I do wear them.

I also think the Kinvaras aren't great for colder weather (they seem so flimsy...) nor did I like wearing them for 13.1 miles at a pop, so I might still keep a pair of the old style in rotation.

I have a 6 year old pair of Nike cycling shoes i just cant bring myself to get rid of.  Mind you, Nike doesnt even make cycling shoes anymore.  I tell myself they will become vintage now because of that fact.

If you want to go drop coin on 4 pairs of new shoes, who am I to say "don't" ?

I'll keep old-but-functional stuff until it's no longer functional then it's g-o-n-e.  I do have a few sentimental things that hang around unused.  I'm glad that my wife is also willing to keep sentimental but non-functional things (like me) around too.

That's what became of my golf shoes once I started triathlon.

What size 1063's?  11 by any chance??? 1063's are still my fav long-distance shoe (>10mi runs).  NB last just seems to fit my foot best.

If you were such a NB 1063 guy why did you cheat on them with another shoe?

Marketing.

It was the Kinvara 2 eh edition with maple leafs all over it. And then there was that "what is strong" add campaign.
