Elite Veteran 1817    Cedar Rapids, Iowa |  Subject: Want to change careers.....to sales.Career advice please from the font of all wisdom that is BT. I am sick of my job. I want to change careers and after much soul searching have come to the conclusion I need to be in some kind of sales. One, because I have the personality for it and two, because I can have more control over my own career destiny and income than sitting behind a desk just waiting for my whopping 3-4% annual raise. So my question is this: Do you know from experience what fields are easiest to break into without any sales experience (and have the potential to be fairly lucrative after the ZERO income period that is likely to occur initially)? And just to save you some time, I have already eliminated Prostitution, Drugs and Mary Kay. You have my gratitude for your input. OK, I'm off to the gym. Have a great evening! |

In Canada, study and take your sales'man license, a business which is strugling will hire you (they pretty much all are right now), and invest some time before the market picks up - you'll have a nice job. |

Runner | Subject: RE: Want to change careers.....to sales. Personally, I've tried sales in a number of venues, and it sucks. However, if you're looking at professional sales (like an account manager or whatever they wanna call em now) then you're best bet is to look at a company that sells whatever you have knowledge and experience of. Since I don't know what you're current job or comapny is, I don't know what to tell you in terms of sales. You could look at internal postings for your current company, too. |

Just take a look at Monster.com, or maybe even dice.com. I know I see technical/software sales alot. You could probably also look at more health or service-specific sales as well. Other than that, don't limit it to sales. There's lots of people-oriented type jobs out there. Me I do programming, but find that I like dealing with people more than I do, so I think I'm leaning towards being an analyst of some sort. |

As a service to you for hijacking your thread, I went to Monster.com and did a search for sales related jobs in Cedar Rapids...over 100 responses came back. Check it out. As to the tri store, I have told my wife that this is my dream job...so you may be on to something! And we are ready, willing, and able to leave the Bad Place on a moment's notice! |
