I get very thirsty when riding and am looking for a way to carry more water and was just wondering which one of these people prefer. The whole aero thing doesn't really bother me. I think the rear one would probably be better for me but I've heard people say about bottles coming out and that doesn't sound too great. Plus where would you put spare tubes and stuff on long rides with a rear mounting system because wouldn't it mean you couldn't use a saddle wedge bag thingy.

If being aero is not an issue, I guess I would go ahead and get a rear-mounted bottle cage system, I don't have one, but I think if your tire kit bag is small enough all "should" fit. Experiment with bottles that fit snugger, I don't know about you, but I seem to collect huge amount of water bottles every year. You could also get a larger water bottle like a Profile Design to put between your aero bars, assuming you have those. Along with your two water bottles on the frame you should be set.

I have a rear mount system and a small pod bag; it all fits but is pretty snug. I'll also be putting an aerodrink for up front.

The ones that mount to the saddle rails require some creativity to get a saddle bag to fit as well. As for bottle ejection... I used cages that have a hole in the top (just part of the cage -- an upper loop rather than a solid chunk) and looped a toe strap through the hole and around the top of the bottle. Never lost a bottle. Requires a little more fiddling if you're trying to access the bottles on the fly though.

I use the Profile Design aero-bottle up front and then have the X-lab Flatwing w/2 bottle holders in the back (each has a rubber band to keep the arms snug against the bottle). I utilize the bottles in the back to replentish the hydration in the front by pouring/squirting the liquid into the aero-bottle.

I have found that I drink more consistently utilizing the aero-bottle ... the straw is right there, so it easier to take a drink - as opposed to having to to dig down between your legs or behind you back each time you want to take a sip.

You are smart to think about hydration as the temperatures start to climb.  I learned the hard way about being dehydrated during my first metric century when I blew up at mile ~64 - ugh!

rear mount Profile Design plus (small) saddle bag works for me, too:

there's actually quite a bit of space between the bottle and the bag. i could carry a bigger on if i needed to.
