Its going to be hard to compete with Ironman and Rev3.  I wonder how many people are signing up for the Full IMs? It could get lonely out there doing a full with a few hundred people.

I hope the series goes off well. I just can't imagine doing 12 new races in 12 months with 4 different length races all for the first time.

I have done non WTC IM races (as relay or AB) with less than 100 folks and they are lonely.

The HITS series seems to be very well run. My wife was supposed to do her first 1/2IM in Naples (we're down there quite often because of family), but she's had some IT band issues in her last couple of 1/2 marathons, so she asked HITS if there was any way she could move her registration to a different HITS race. No problem at all, within a few minutes, she's now doing the Cooperstown, NY race in the fall instead.

Not only did they answer the email immediately, but they also called back to confirm that this is what she wanted to do. Don't want to name names, but lots of other race organizers has something to learn from this type of customer service and flexibility....

This is encouraging indeed. Most of the things that have been going around about HITS so far have been negative (of the "how can they pull this off?" or "these races will be too small/boring" variety). So it's good to hear that they're doing some things very well.

It looks to be well run. I hope they do well.  I hate the fact that you can't transfer a registration with Ironman.

I'm really hoping this series takes off.  There's a lot of money and a the organization is HUGE in equestrian events, so the semantics of pulling off major events should be well understood.  With all the anti-Ironman sentiment out there, I think they have a shot.  I've sent a few emails about the Cooperstown event and gotten immediate and thorough answers.

One thing I wonder about for the full is how it will be received given the distances aren't quite Iron-distances.  For all those interested in non-Ironman brands, is it important that the distances are the same?  I guess I wouldn't care and I'm potentially targeting Cooperstown 2013 if they make it, but I wonder if some (most) people want iron-distances.

I thought they changed it so now the distances are all standard. Think they realized that would be a huge drawback for most.

One of the races is here in Naples in January.  I know we are in Florida but I can't imagine swimming in the Gulf in January.....of course I'm cold in 72 degrees so...

Anyway I've decided to sit this one out and so I volunteered for bodymarking.  It will be interesting to see what kind of turn out they get and how organized etc.

Melanie, you just wanna ink up all the hot men's bod's before the race.

Interesting, and that tells me they are listening and reacting to what people want.  The sport could use more options.
