mn_av8or - 2011-12-21 6:37 PM Leaving tomorrow and will be up in Tahoe a few days later... looks like my wishing for snow has failed but thanks for the tips and I am sure I can find some skiing and things to occupy my time!

Head over to Yosemite - not a "long" drive but wow - totally worth it if you haven't been there before - I will never forget driving in and seeing El Cap for the first time!

Tioga and the other passes are usually closed in winter, but looks like it's still open from caltrans so that migt be a silver lining.  Agreed that the drive is beautiful and Yosemite (IMO) is best in winter.  Used to go every year to ski at Badger Pass

I would have been there in teh winter of 1976, age 13.  I remember the Fiore name.  I was there with my best friend learning together and our instructor was a cool 20-something that stressed that skiing should be smooth and easy and to "just follow the fall-line dude".  I remember seeing him later in the day smoking a joint.  No wonder he stressed smooth and easy.  After learning there we primarily skied at China Peak, later named Sierra Summit and just recently re-named China Peak.  Good times, good times.....
