I am extremely intersted in doing a triathlon but i must say the whole experience of what i will have to endure is really freaking me out. I am in good physical health and i do step aerobic 4 times a week. I know this is nothing compared to the training for a tri. I want to do one for no particular reason. Just something to do to entertain myself. i am buying a trek or cannondale this week. i have aprehensions about doing this. :-O

Just remember, every single person that has ever done a tri has started somewhere...... If you are in good aerobic condition, I think you may be surprised that that sprint tri's are not that unbearable. Just make sure you train in all the events, and also do a few "brick" workouts (where you do mutiple events at the same exercise session). Above all else, have fun with it - triathletes are a great group of people....

Good luck,
Dennis

No worries!  You'll be fine.  Just start practicing each of the 3 disciplines and you'll be hooked!  And then come to this site for questions!

Best of luck!

Though I'm new here, I'm willing to bet that everyone here has felt a little apprehensive bout tri-ingat some point or another--and we've all pulled through. I almost freaked before my first. But everyone was so supportive and so nice...it definately helped pull me through. Everyone above is right. Start spending some time in each of the three specific disciplines and you'll do fine.

u can do it...if u can train the distances separately, putting them all together on race day isnt much more...the race day excitement and the will to cross the finish line will tap resources inside u that u never new existed.  thats some good energy.

good luck!

I used to be exactly in your (high topped) aerobic shoes!!! I did Step at least 4 sometimes 6 times a week...(for about 6 years) I found myself having lots of foot injuries, though... and I was getting BORED with the step routines, even though they were becoming more challenging and the instructors were trying to use multiple steps, etc etc... I needed something else...
I'm a lousy runner... but my sister and brother in law brought me to my first 5K. I did terribly, but I finished, and it really sparked my competitive spirit! (Even though I'm not much of a threat on the pavement, I'm a regular dolphin in the water, so my brother in law suggested I "tri" a triathlon...
My first race was an indoor triathlon at the gym. It was very hard because I didn't train, but I was elated when I thought I beat two people in my age group... until I looked closer and saw they didn't even show up. So yes, I finished dead last...But I was HOOKED!
Signed up for 3 more races last year... tried to follow a training program, but didn't do very well with it, but still finished all three races with a respectable time for a newbie.   ha ha.
Anyway, welcome! I'm sure there are others out there that share our "stepper" roots. I think you'll find less foot stress in this sport...(even though that doesn't seem like it would be right... I swear it is.... especially with no impact cross training on the bike and in the pool...) Sounds like you're buying a nice bike... so you're further ahead than I am already!!!
Good Luck... You can do it!!! Exercise with a Goal!   LW

Welcome! If you do step aerobics 4x a week then you should have a great aerobic base to start training! Use the beginner sprint training program on this site--it's great. Good luck!
