Subject: CycleOps Customer Service

I always share my customer service stories ... both positive and negative. This is a positive one.

I've been using a hand-me-down CycleOps Fluid Plus trainer. It's got more than a few years and a few miles on it, but saved me some coin when I needed to move indoors this year. I was thankful for the handoff.

It soon started leaking fluid, so I knew the end was near, but I was determined to ride it until its final pedal stroke. That happened yesterday. It must have continued leaking since its last ride ... as there was zero resistance when I began yesterday's spin. I checked everything ... it was getting way too hot way too fast and made a very annoying noise. And it stunk. So I resigned myself to the fact that I'd need a new trainer.

But I called CycleOps just to see if they'd be willing to help me out. I was up front about this not being mine originally ... that I had taken it on from a friend. They diagnosed that it was too old to simply send out a new resistance unit but offered to upgrade me to the Fluid 2. All I need to do is send them this resistance unit and they'll send out a brand new trainer for $180.

I think that's a good deal. And I get to continue tossing some business to my hometown peeps in Wisconsin. Win-win.

I'll add that they've been very responsive with my comments and feedback on Poweragent.  I had some specific issues with the way the software was exporting the altimeter reading and they got back to me right away.

I was lucky in the fact that my CL leaking unit had the larger mounting point so I got a new resistance unit for the cost of shipping from Texas.

ETA - I was also very upfront with them about how I got my unit.  I originally asked if there was a way to just service the unit, like replace the seals and stuff, but was told, "no, just send it in"

I just noticed a puddle of fluid under my resistance unit.  I noticed less resistance earlier in the week, but thought I had not tightened it down enough.  I just sent customer service an email, we'll see what happens.

they just replaced my fluid resistance unit of 4 years - no questions asked - just had to ship them the resistance unit and 7 days later my new resistance unit showed up - one of the few things I am glad I paid retail price for

Same for me.  I bought mine off ebay 4 years ago and it started leaking fluid recently.  I called them and told them everything up front that it was 4 years old (website says 3 year warranty on the resistance unit) and that I had bought it off ebay.  No problem, I just had to pay to have it shipped to them and it is being replaced for free.

Talked to someone today.  Because I bought it from craigslist it is not covered by warranty.  However, if I ship the resistance unit in they will give me a new one (with warranty) for $100.  As much as I was hoping to only pay shipping, paying for the replacement unit seems fair.

They are great!

The yellow handle on the back of our CycleOps trainer was cracked. My boyfriend sent an email... and they sent a new handle. Just that simple! So awesome!
