Hi all,

I'm looking to compete in my first Olympic Tri and was curious what were some good ones late in the season?  Right now I'm looking at Square Lake tri, but I know that is not a true Olympic distance if we're getting picky.  Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

The Rev3 race in the Dells this year will have an Olympic distance as well as the half.  Although this is their first year in the Dells, from what I hear they put on great races.  Is July too soon?  There's a bunch of good races in July as well that might be worth ramping up your training sooner.  Lifetime's a good one, although with alot of racers.  Very well run though.

I did the Detroit Lakes Olympic this past season and I have to say to avoid it, unless they do some serious clean up and fixing of the swim course.  Tons of weeds and the water was 3 ft. deep for a majority of the poorly marked and incorrect distance swim course.

The only local "late season" true (sort of) Olympic tri that I am aware of is Maple Grove Triathlon.  That swim and run are the right distance, the bike is 26 miles.   Despite that, it's billed as an Oly.  Really nice race overall.

If you don't care a lot about the perfection of distance, the St. Paul Oly is the next best.  The bike is very short, but the swim and run are good.

I am pretty sure that at Square Lake it is just a sprint and a HIM. No oly.

My vote for a late Olympic is St. Croix on Sept 1. It's a small race, but the course is good and Final Stretch does a good job with their races. I'm considering it again for 2012. Pigman also added an Olympic distance on Aug 19, the same day as the half.

Count me as another vote for St. Croix Oly. It's put on by Final Stretch, and I like their races: they are usually "professionally" run, but they aren't stressful and they feel pretty "low key." I've done the sprint and oly there before.

Wow, I'm getting really pumped for some of these races.  I think I may look into Liberty tri or Lifetime fitness for an earlier season oly and do the st croix or square lake for the last race.  Thanks for all of your input.  The tri community is awesome.
