I learned how to do flip turns, the importance of establishing a running base prior to attempting speed work, and that consistent training can improve your IM time by 2 hours. Happy new year folks!

I learned that there's a reason most people have tri bikes or road bikes with clip on aero bars for HIM or longer events - especially really windy ones.

I learned that even if i train crazy number of hours in a week, I still can't eat whatever I want without gaining weight.

I didn't learn anything except keep pushing....who knew an empty head could be this much fun??

There are days I know I'm doomed to hell because I'm having so much fun in this life training and racing with my kids.  I did nothing in my life to deserve this.

What a hoot!

I learned that I can race with the best in my AG (first 1st place) if I put in the hard work required to do so.

I learned that injuries heal in their own time and so signing up for races far in the future because "of course I'll be better by then" is a surefire way to lose a lot of money in non-refundable race fees for races you can't do after all.

I learned that more than minimal swim training leads to such diminishing returns that it's not worth it for me. I'm better off just running and riding more with that time at least right now.

I've learned that I'm mentally tougher than a lot of people who are more fit than me and that sometimes that's more important when it comes to race results.

Oh and that being unemployed so you can train as much as you want is not all it's cracked up to be.

* I learned only recently, that being indecisive is the worst thing you can be. Make a decision. Even if it ends up being a bad decision. It will move you forward.

* My kids, now 15 and 19...know far more than me when it comes to technology!  Embarassed

* That adversity doesn't dictate our life. What dictates our life is how we respond to it.

* That a true friend is hard to find. When found, try to be a true friend back!

Those are two of the biggest things I have learned this year also.

I have also learned there is a runner that was just hiding inside of me waiting to get out.

Negative people are energy sucks - stay away from them.

Look for and enjoy the little things in life.  A smile or a flower on the side of the road can make all the difference in your day.

Trail runs are so much more fun than road runs.

I truly have some wonderful kids.

My ex husband is a much nicer person now that we don't live in the same house.

2011 has been a huge learning process for me.  Can't wait to see what 2012 brings.

I learned that my body is strong (physically and mentally) from all the training I do (thank you coach Jessica).  I discovered self-confidence and trust in my body that I was lacking.

I can tolerate caffeine racing and it does seem to have a positive impact for me.

I need to just run and ignore the pain the same way I do when I bike.

I learned that I am fortunate to be able to do this sport day after day, and I truly enjoy it.

Ridgelake - 2011-12-30 4:09 PM I've learned to be more philosophical about tris.  Take things more in stride.  Go with the flow.  Step back and realize that this is a hobby.  A luxury.  That there are very, very few people who do this to feed their families.  That I do tris to reduce stress in my life, not add stress.  It really puts things into perspective.

x2. I did one sprint in 2011 and I've managed to stay sane

That when your wife gets a boyfriend it is a strong sign that your marriage is over.

learned: sign up for any contest that runs for free things you always have a chance.

I signed up for a free chance to win a FELT bike. Won it. I signe dup for ford ironman training team for free by writing an essay. Turned that essay winner into being featured by NBC in the Ironman broadcast this year.
