Subject: BREAK ON THROUGH!! :) finally
For months, I've been reading about breakthrough swims that other athletes have been having. I've just kept plodding along, adding 25m here or there, hoping to get some volume and distance built up someday. It is like being a kid watching other people unwrap presents at Christmas... but not having one to unwrap. Until today...

I swam 1,000m straight this morning. My goal was to do 600m, since I had a really really tough ride last night. I wasn't sure if I'd have the energy to do it. Next thing I know, I'm cruising past 700, 800, 900m. I only stopped at 1000 because it was a good round number, I wanted to stop and pinch myself, and I had to get out of the pool and head to work.

You couldn't wipe the grin off my face if you tried.

This is odd...I had my breakthrough swim yesterday as well. It truly is an awesome feeling, and it gets me revitalized for my workout tonight!! It goes to show that even though you may not feel like anything is clicking with your body and training, sooner or later it will pop, and when it does...IT IS AWESOME!!

Great Job, I start my swimming next week. Although I guess I had my Breakthrough  in running last night. I felt like I could have run forever.

touche! yeah, i'm about as good at 'thread-starting' as i am at 'clipping in.' it always takes a couple tries.

thanks for the support all!
one of the things that may have factored in today were my very exhausted legs. so basically, used them only a tiny bit. they are such oxygen hogs! so, while i'm never a particularly strong kicker, i really just let them come along for the ride this morning. that kept my breathing under control.
it was really an awesome feeling to be in control of my breathing and stroke rate. i was calm and collected, and forced myself to stay out of 'race mode.'
also, i can honestly say that i wasn't expecting this. i just planned to build up yardage very slowly. so if i can do it, anybody can. if you're waiting on getting over the swimming hurdle like i had been for several months, keep the faith. it will come.

thanks,
~B

I remember the first time that happened to me early this year. I wanted to do 2000m but ended up doing 3200m. I had to go to work. Good for you!
