Subject: Public Tracks near Sherman Oaks/Van Nuys/Studio City?

Hey everyone,

I just found out that they closed the track at Harvard Westlake to the public.  Which blows.  Anybody have any advice on a local school with a good track that's open to the public in the area.  Bonus points for steps to run.  I'm near Van Nuys/Ventura Blvd., and looking for somewhere close enough to run to for track workouts.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Try calling Burbank High School and see if their track is open to the public.  I think it's on Glenoaks.  I have not been there myself personally, just drove by but another triathlete friend of mine invited me to go there and train last December.

There's some availability for the public at LA Valley College, but not sure when it is...been quite awhile since the few times I used it.  Try their website.

Burbank HS definitely has public availability, but I've only run with a group there, so not sure of details.  Same with Birmingham HS track in VN/Lake Balboa, I believe (haven't run there, but I know there's some outside usage).

Anything is open to the public if you can hop a fence.  We already know that you're fast enough to outrun a rent-a-cop if needed.

It is open to public - I train there year around. Great track, lotsa parking, not too crowded. Also John Burroughs high school nearby is very to getting its brand new track completed - I believe that it is the same size track.
