Subject: Bike Fit/Posture - Advice please...

Had my wife take some pictures for another reason, and thought I'd ask for any advice on my bike fit/posture as I am a novice at riding.

When I bought my 58cm 2.1 Trek in 2010 the LBS set me up as you see in the picture. I haven't changed anything since that day. I am 6'2" 32"inseam and 200lbs.

Any advice/critique would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Looks wicked fast.

dang, now that the pictures show up it's not nearly as fitting

My advice:  swing looks a little steep.   I'm guessing you tend to leave em right with the occasional hard pull?

Sorry 'thebigb', but what do you mean by "My swing is too steep"?

He's referring to your avatar.  As far as your fit goes, I think you will get many more responses if you can post a video.  It's difficult with still shots.  Taking a stab, your seat might be a touch high.  But don't listen to me.

Duh! Embarassed  It's been a long day!!

Thanks, the reason I took the pictures in the first place was to see what my leg angle was when my foot is in the down position.

I read on here the other day, or a link through here that the angle between the lower and upper leg should be between 25-35 degs. Preferrably neare 25degs. The larger the angle gets the more prone you are to patella tendonitis which is what I tend to get. Especially if my cadence gets too low!

yep,

you look a little too far forward.  Either extending the stem or moving the seat back would help.

I wouldn't move the seat back....I would just get a slightly longer stem...try one size longer (10mm). Seat height looks ok.

Depends....if that's his up swing and he drops it back to the inside...he could be setup very nicely. If that's the downswing, he's probably gonna pull it a little.

FastYellow, No I think thebigb nailed it! Blocking with the occasional pull! Laughing

I was between a 58cm & 60cm when I bought it, the LBS said a 58cm, and I tend to agree. I have thought of a longer stem, as I have a long torso. I think I'll try that. Thanks!!

First off, WAY too much weight on your arms. I'm guessing that you DO need to move the saddle back a bit. The bars look close in to me, as well as low. The actual point-to-point distance may not be the problem. If they were moved, in an arc relative to the tip of the saddle, up and forward, you might find yourself relaxing a whole lot.

Something that will help a lot: Redo the pictures with your hands on the brake hoods. You really don't ride in that position a whole lot (unless you're going to be riding on the track or in crits).
