Subject: Looking for a 10K in SC PA

I have a PT client who would like to run a 10K later this spring.  She lives near Harrisburg, so something as far away as Gettysburg or Lancaster would be fine, but Pittsburgh or Philly would be too far.  I'm not sure if she would want to go as far as State College or Northern MD.

Has anyone done one that they really enjoyed in this part of the state and in this time frame?  I've already searched here on BT and trifind, but I know a lot of 5K's and 10K's only get promoted locally and don't get posted online.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Pretzel City Sports does a lot of races based in the Berks County/Reading area, about an hour east of Harrisburg. But they also do the timing and promote races from Harrisburg to Philly.

That's exactly what I was looking for!  It looks like most of the races on their calendar aren't posted here or trifind yet.

Thanks, GB!

If she wants to come to Philly, I help organize a 5K/10K in late March in the Art Museum area - nice and flat!

It's called Get Your Rear in Gear - it raises money for local colon cancer programs....

Not sure if this would be a great option for a 1st time PT patient, but our local trail running club does a 5k/10k at night in early April. You have to take a flashlight, and you go through a creek a couple of times. Definitely a trail run.

--- If she'd like to run an inaugural 5k in mid-April, I'm organizing one for a preschool scholarship fund that will the first ever 5k in the town of Richfield PA. A lot of residents there commute to Harrisburg every day for work, so it's not terribly far. It will be a traditional daytime road race.

Now, since you are talking late spring, the only local 10K, specifically, would be the DUI Victims Memorial, which is on Front Street. This will be on Saturday, May 5th. I did this event in 2008 but haven't since because of scheduling conflicts.

Here's a link http://padui.org/events/special-events/ Looks like the date is announced but registration isn't open yet.

Might your client might be interested in a 15K? The Cumberland Vally Rails-toTrails has one every year. You meet in Shippensburg, get bussed to Newville, and run the trail back to Ship.

Here's a link for that one http://cvrtc.org/race.html This one is on Sunday, April 22nd.

All other 10ks I know of are either in July (Carlisle Summerfest), or October (Kid's Chance, City Island).

Here's another possible resource for you: http://lrrclub.org/schedule.asp Lancaster Road Runners Club lists all sorts of upcoming races and events.

Sorry about the abbreviation.  "PT" is Personal Training in the health club world, not Physical Therapy.  She's completely healthy, quite fit, and has run numerous 5K's with a PR in the high 20's.

I've encouraged her to take on a HM, because she could definitely do it, but she only wants a 10K for now.
