Costco or BJ's Wholesale Club brands.  Because they're cheapest.

I also take a fish oil and Glucosamine.  Again, both are Costco's or BJ's for the same reason.

I use Trader Joes multi-vitamin.  Otherwise, I just eat plenty of real foods; non-processed, no additives/preservatives.

None.

If I wanted to take a pill I would look not at multivitamins, but instead a green supplement. These are a better option IMO since they are more of a whole food and not the isolated nutrients. I would take a look at Fruit+, maybe Living Fuel Super Green, or Vitaforce Tablets.

I take a men's formula multi vitamin because some regular multi's contain iron which men don't need to supplement. I also take b-complex, calcium & vitamin c.

Reliv Classic (powder, mix with glass of OJ in the morning).  Supposedly better absorption than with a pill.

I try to get as much as I can from healthy eating, there are a lot of minerals and vitamins that breack down during the processing and storage of the pills. Also being a biochemist I also know that some of the methods of measuring the units that are reported are not reliable for one reason or another. That said I still take a multivitamin, just in case, you know. either One a day active men, or Nature's bounty ultra man. For some reason I trust those two companies more than most...

I take a multi, even though I try to eat well everyday. I also take two glucosamine, one at breakfast and the other at supper. I find that they help with joint pain and stiffness when training. I also take two Omega 3, same schedule as the glucosamine, to help with my cholesterol. I have always had issues with that, no matter how healthy I ate. Since I started with the fish oil, I have been right in the middle of the normal range.

In the end, it's what works for you that matters. This regime has kept me healthy for almost 6 years now.

I take the inexpensive ones I can get at Costco, Walmart etc. as long as they have the USP label.  Fish oil also.  I try to eat healthy but that part of my life is just as random as my training.

Exactly the same routine that I follow. Been doing this for years. It works for me. At 64 my joints are still holding up very well. My cholesterol levels and ratio of LDL/HDL are good along with all of the other numbers I had at my last physical. Most important I feel good so why do anything different.

I occasionally sneak one of my kids Flintstones or one of my wife's left over Materna multi-vitamins.

Otherwise its just a blanced diet.

Glucosamine is something I have been considering lately. I have been really upping my mileage lately with my mothers and her mothers history with knee issues, I have reason for concern. The research is back and forth, but there is so much anecdotal evidence that I cannot help but think about taking the supp.

I assume you both would recommend it?

I am reluctant to "recommend" any supplement for someone else. I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV. I do, however, have an annual aircrew medical that requires me to list all the vitamins and supplements that I ingest. So my doctor knows about all of them and tells me that the glucosamine won't hurt (aside, he takes Omega 3 daily)

My research was that glucosamine did no harm, with mixed results on any benefits. I do know that it works for me. Is it a placebo? Don't know. Don't care. My Clydesdale body feels better when I use it.

My recommendation: do your homework, make a decision. If it works, you learned something of value for you.

I take a generic multivitamin during the offseason but during racing season I take First Endurance Multi-V. Its regular serving size is 3 tablets a day which makes the bottle last only a month. I will typically take one a day and two on hard training days. Then on race day (and the day before) I will take the full three and feel that it does make a difference. Although the cost can be hard to swallow.

I don't take multivitamins because I have no reason to believe that they're beneficial.  There's a link above from 2008 but there have been some more studies recently suggesting that they may be harmful.  Of course one can be skeptical about these types of reports, but one can also be skeptical about any claims regarding the benefits of vitamins.

Does anybody really believe that vitamins are necessary for people that eat a sensible balanced diet?

My two cents.

I don't take a multivitamin, I eat a balanced high protein diet with no processed foods, very low sugar and lots of vegetables and fruits in many varieties.

This was recommended by a nutritionist who agreed that vitamins do little more than make rally expensive urine.

58 years old and joints are painful in fingers, toes, and shoulder, due to arthritis.  So the meds I take for that need Folic acid to counteract depletion.

In addition, inspite of a vegetarian diet since 1975 I have borderline high cholesterol, (doctor says hereditary) so I take flaxseed oil (veggie subsitute for fish oils), and watch my diet.  I also take vitamine D, and a prostate support vit58 amin, (you wait younger guys, your time is coming)....be right back I gotta pee.

Finally, I take cinnamon capsules, and St John's Wort for mood elevation, (a touch of depression history) Man it sounds like I am a mess.  Now that I write it all down I'm really depressed.

It's a good thing I have training or I might consider ending it all.
