I have started swimming again, and last night did a 1/4 mile then a 1/2 mile then a 1/4 mile. I figured that like running I need to build a base before I worry about speed. I was wondering if I was heading in the right direction. My first Tri will be a sprint in August.

Thanks.

It sounds like you are off to a good start! This site has all kinds of resources that will help motivate and help keep track of your progress like the training logs. You should be looking pretty good for august.

What race are you doing?

your mostly right but the swim is a little diff as good technique will go far so your not wasting energy.  keep building the voulume...nothing wrong with that BUT maybe check out a masters club or see a coach for a few times.  its really never too early to work on technique...then once u have good technique with the volume, comes speed - or else your just wasting a whole lot of energy.

check out the book 'total immersion'...i'm sure u have heard of it.

I’ll see ya there – Its Ellacott (SP) on the BIG lake!!

The good thing about the lake is that it’s so big that the markers will look really close. HAHAHAHAA

I’m trying to convince myself!

Are you going to the course to check it out at any point? I think I will the week before – actually ride and run and swim it just to get the feel for it.

I had'nt planned in it but it sounds like a good idea. I am already trying to figure out if I can do the Grantite Ledges in Sept.

Yeah – I’m looking at that too. I’ve pencilled in the YMCA one in Clough park on sept 11th as well so doing the Granite ledges will mean 3 in 5 weeks!!!

I’m trying to think why not!!

My two concerns with Granite Ledges are the swim, it is a long distance for me, and I am doing Reach the Beach the weekend before so I will be running up to 30+ miles in 24 hours.
