I'm baaaaaack! Laughing

Good morning BT!  And thus begins my climb back from a horrible flu/bronchitis bout.  Ugly stuff!

4:15am:  60 mins/17.5 miles on the KK.  15 minutes of core work.  That was about all I could do.

So...to those of you whose training has been sidetracked by illness...where do I go from here?  I'm 7.5 weeks out from my marathon and haven't run in a week.  How do I work myself back into my mileage?  I'm not feeling 100% yet.  Any advice?

Have a great first day of March!

Today is a forced rest day, this cold is starting to settle in my chest. So I am on rest and medicine. Bummer, but that is just the way it goes.

I'll be interested in the illness answers that you get. Have an outstanding day.

60 minutes with Coach Troy.  Then 15 minutes of core work.

Glad you're feeling a bit better. I'd work back to it slowly....I normally don't run until I feel okay just doing normal daily things (and easy swims). Then do only easy runs until I feel good doing those, slowly work up the mileage. Get back to more intense running last. Ditto for biking. But I have asthma and my worst attacks are always when I have or am just getting over a cold or flu, so I err on the side of caution. There's nothing like the feeling of suffocation to make you do that!

Just an easy 1600m swim here, fighting paranoia that I'm getting sick too.... Lots of kids and colleagues down, and had weird muscle cramps on and off all day. Not PMS, not from hard training as yesterday was easy. I'm supposed to fly to Singapore for a race tomorrow and we have a three-day trip to a nature reserve with the kids next week, so getting sick now would really, really suck. Felt a lot better after eating dinner and drinking some Nuun, so maybe it is nutrition/electrolyte related--it's been extremely hot and humid the last few days and really sweating it out.

Thank you, looks like good advice.  The key is easing back into it and not freaking out about lost fitness.  I know if I divebomb back into my training schedule I'll just be asking to get sick again and I certainly can't do another bout of that stuff.  I will send healthy thoughts your way--would hate to see you go down with all of your upcoming activities!

Going to try and get in a 5 mile run at lunch if the rain holds off, Its just a light freezing drizzle here now , so that can make for a nasty  and pretty slippery outdoor experience. Just have to wait and see how it is at lunchtime hopfull the temp will climb a bit and the rain will stay light.

Glad to hear that you're feeling better teech.  Good luck with getting back into your routines.  I have absolutely 0 advice for you, just encouragement.

It's supposed to be in the 80's today, so I'm really excited about my bike ride after work today.

First race of the season in 10 days!

Ooh, we haven't had a rabbit in a while!

Glad you're back Kim and orphious.

2:00 trainer ride in the big ring and a 3100m swim for me. With a 400 IM in the middle, just for fun.

Labbit Labbit! March has arrived in southern Vermont in the form of an angry, white snow lion.

This little labbit hopped in the pool today and after busting through that terrible feeling at the 300-350 yard mark, continued to swim 900 yards! WHOO HOO!

Thought I'd stop after 12 laps, but I was feeling good so said to myself, "why not go for 14 laps?" Which turned into, "why not go for 16 laps?" And finally, "what the hell, let's go for a half mile and do 18 laps".  I felt great after! Really got into the groove, didn't find myself gasping for air and my heart rate was up but not outta control when I finished. Felt like I could have kept going. So cool.

SNOW DAY for this teacher! 9 miles with some VO2Max work in around an hour on the treadmill, then 2100 yards in the pool. Plan on an hour on the trainer this afternoon.

Those are the best swims ever, when it just 'comes together'.  It is so zen!

4 mile (27 minutes) hard run today.  Surprisingly I still had a bit left in the tank but I'll save that for the long day tomorrow.  Swimming in the morning...

30 minutes on the trainer this morning just to work out soreness from reffing soccer the previous night.   One hour shake down ride on the beach cruiser to test my bike mechanic skills.
