Subject: Where do you swim?
Greetings fellow Utahns,

Since I've been scouting Utah for a place to swim, I thought it would be nice for beginners, like myself, to have a nice list of the places and people at those places for swimmming.

Example:

I just joined up at the Steiner Aquatic center. I saw they have a masters program that meets there (and for me, a pre-masters program). I was wondering if anyone from this crew swims there so I don't feel so intimidated at the pool. I went today to try and just...flop around in the water, but I must stay I haven't felt that intimidated by a group of people since running in the Varsity meets in 8th grade. Yow!

It would have been a little easier for me to 'know' someone there :D

Places I swim (or plan on doing soon)

Steiner Aquatic Center - U o' U

Fairmont Pool - Sugarhouse

Gold's Gym - West Valley

Gold's Gym - Van Winkle

If anyone is currently, or would like to swim there, just post away here...might make those intimidating places a little less so for us swimmers who have only been swimming 3 days in their life. Also, I don't know about ch'all but I'm always open and receptive to constructive criticism from some better swimmers (everyone but my dad).

Hey Aaron -

Welcome. Having qualified for Boston last year no doubt you will pick up on the swim quick. Don't be too intimdated. I was like you last fall. Couldn't swim 50 yds. without resting. I'm still not fast but I can make the distances now.

I've swam Fairmont and some of us swim Murray Rec Center on occasion. I also swim at Golds on 13th and 80th and do a lot when I'm on the road. Dave is a good masters coach at Fairmont and does great work with newbs at noon (or did last year).

I am in Davis County, so I swim at the Layton Surf and Swim (25m). I know of some people that also swim at the Bountiful pool.

lifesgreat - 2006-05-16 11:09 PM I am in Orem so I swim at the Orem Rec. Center (50m pool) and in the summer at the SCERA Park pools (25 m pool).

I'm in Orem quite a bit these days. Where is the Rec center? What is the cost? Are there set times for lap swims or do they offer any master classes?

http://www.orem.org/PDF/Rec/OremRec05-06.pdf   has  the information you are looking for.  I am a little confused about summer rec center lap times.  In the past, lap swimming was stopped 9-noon and 3-6 for swimming lessons (summer only), but I couldn't find anything in the catalog.   Masters class-yes

Would anyone be able to provide more information regarding Fairmont? Masters, pricing, etc.

Thanks!

I am in Springville, I do my pool swim at the Gold's Gym in Orem and my OWS at the Spanish Fork reservoir. I love it there!
