So I got out of work early yesterday and decided to hit the Y for a swim. I have a race Saturday so I figured I would take it easy. I got in a nice slow relaxing 600 meter swim, got changed ( 5 min transition), and was off on the bike, stopping only for a minute to drop off my backpack of swim gear.

It reached 94 degrees yesterday and stupid me is out on my bike doing the local loop (10 miles). I did it at an 18 mph pace and feeling good. As I was locking and racking my bike and getting ready to go out for a run, I ran into a guy from my running club. He asked me if I was running the race. "Race ?", I asked as my eyes lit up. Apparently there was a 5K race that was due to start in 25 minutes.

So, Kevin lends me $20 and I sign up for the race. Race time temp. @ 7pm last night was still 91.

The official results haven't posted but I finished in the top 15, possibly top 10 and wound up winning a medal for 3rd place in the 20-29 age group.

To steal a line from someone else ---HOODY HOO !

A 6:30 pace

Mile 1 - 6:06:70
1/2 way trun - 9:32:90
Mile 2 - 13:18:50
Finish - 20:12:89

Congrats... an excellent 5K time considering you swam and biked prior....

Did the 25 minute T2 delay effect your 5k time positively or negatively?

Great job!!!

Maybe it's just me, but since I have been tri-ing, running events seem to be alot easier??????? Maybe there is something to the cross training that all the books talk about......

6:06 is smoking!!!!! A six minute mile (one of them) is my goal before the year is out.

yes, a very nice unexpected treat and after looking through my race logs, it was also my fastest 5K time this year

Jason, I guess the 25 minute T2 delay was positive .....it was incredibly hot so all i really did was hydrate, stretch and relax in the shade.
