Subject: Crashed on the bike today

Met up for a local group ride today, about 25 bikers. There was another group from the same club doing a different route. About 2 miles from the start the groups split off and I went with the wrong group. The ride leader from my group yelled for me, so I turned around, stood on the pedals, and sprinted to catch up. As I turned back onto the correct road I hit some gravel and the bike went out from under me.

First, the bike is OK. Carbon is really tough! For some reason this is the first question I've gotten asked by my friends. Second, nothing is broken, just some serious road rash on my arm and hip. My hip is purple and swollen like a softball. No pics right now, sorry.

I did get back on the bike and do the ride, 4 1/2 hours. Trashed a windbreaker and a chunk of my saddle is stripped off. Funny how these things happen in slow motion, I can see myself flying through the air and rolling in the street.

Awesome!!!

OK, sorry about your crash but glad to hear you were able to finish your ride and there were no serious injuries.

Glad you're ok and the bike's not extensively damaged. Sounds like maybe a new seat, though.

I know you said no pics right now, but if you feel up to it I love me some road rash pics

Tegaderm is a great bandage for road rash if you need it.

Bummer Brian, that looks painful.. and to continue the ride, that's very admirable, good job. I hope you're not hurtin' too bad in the morning, that's a big day you had brother. Take care of yourself!

I wiped out on the gravel earlier this year. Fell on my hip too. Not fun. Hope you heal quickly and props for finishing the ride! I had to call my husband to come pick me up and I was only 1/4 mile from home LOL!

was there any damage to the carbon?  You might have it looked at anyway.  You can damage CF without it looking bad only to have it suddenly fail without warning days/weeks/months later.

Glad you're O.K.  way to finish up the ride.  I went down on gravel on my inaugural ride with my Felt F75 last October, a light fall though, nothing compared to yours.
