Since my flu two weeks ago, I was finally able to train again last week.

After a 13mile innaugural ride with my bike on Tuesday I decided to try a little brick on Friday.

I though to do an "easy" 10.5 miles on the bike and a 3.1 mile run.

WOW, the 10.6 miles in 42minutes did hurt, but then the 3.1 miles...

I transitioned in 1:30minutes and thought my legs where giving up under me when I started the run.

I hoped to do 5k in 30minutes (my 5k PR is ~26minutes), but I needed some walking in there and could not push it below 33minutes.

Since it was a training I only brought a bottle of water and no energy gels/drinks.

But I did feel like I got hit with a Brick...

I'm planning on doing a brick or two this weekend I hope. Did my first one last week. 8 miles then 1.2 run. It went really well which means I should have gone harder on the bike I guess.

Great job though!

It gets easier as your training, fitness and pacing improves.

I have been running for a bout 6month and did a halfM on 02/26 in 2:25.

This is why I thought the Brick would not hit me as hard...

Though the 14.5 miles yesterday, almost killed me LOL.

Let's see how the Brick this week goes...

Don't get too caught up in doing bricks.   The first run mile of a brick is valuable because it helps you understand the feeling of getting your run legs and pacing out of transition.  After that. . . its debateable if there is any additional value.

I can empathize - I did the exact same thing yesterday and got to feel the "Brick" - did a 750y swim workout in small sets, 30 mins on the trainer then hit the 5K loop...by the time I got to mile 2 on the run my calfs were screaming more than anytime during my first ever HM a couple weeks ago...wow wake up call received loud and clear...!!  I've heard it gets better - will find out during my first tri next weekend...Cheers!!
