I am IN, and have a duathlon question.  I'm a pretty weak biker on my way to being a mediocre biker.  So over a twenty mile ride is it worth it to ride clipless, knowing it will cost two shoe changes? Or I should just throw my ancient pedals with toe clips on my fancy new tri-bike and ride in running shoes?

Thanks

always go clipless, practice taking your feet out of your shoes for T2 on the bike if you can, if you only have road shoes, it is pretty tough, take them off in T2.  The amount of time it takes to put shoes on and clip in will always be less than the time you will lose riding with straps or toe clips, you just transfer power so much better.

well, looks like NYC revoked the permit for the Hutch, so they shortened the race in both runs and bike.

not sure what to do, i guess it depends on the weather.  Have been nursing a calf injury and a 14 mile bike is just not enough work for me at this point to risk re-aggravating the injury and killing a morning.

Oh, that sucks! I never got around to signing up because my bike fitness isn't where I want it, but my building is right off the Hutch and I wanted to go out and cheer. I'm about to look up the changes right now. I suspect it has something to do with ongoing roadwork - they've been slowly repaving the north bound side for the past few weeks at night (is it on the n/b side?) Anyway, I'm still going to try to be out on the bike course at some point to give you guys some support (supposed to be a cold, nasty day). Good luck!
