Anyone else signed up for the Sprint event or done it before?  It looks interesting with a short ocean swim and a spectator-friendly bike/run course loop.

If you've done it before, does it make sense to wear a wetsuit for the 500m ocean swim?

Thanks.

I just read a thread , may have been on another site, saying that Go Tri Sports went out of buisness and some of the people were questioning wether they would still be holding the events.

Just a heads up.

From what I know, I didn't sign up this year so haven't been paying alot of attention, they did close retail spots and are re-evaluating business model.  From the notices I did get is that the race is still on, not positive though.  It is part of Set Up events South Carolina triathlon series so you might get more of an answer from them then go tri sports at the moment.

In terms of the race:  this was my first tri ever so I'm biased a bit.  It is a current assisted swim for a super fast swim and the water there is fairly calm most of the time, so good first Open Ocean Swim if you've never done one, was not wetsuit legal last year and wasn't really needed IMHO.  The bike/run course is a 5k loop pancake flat, do four on bike and 1 run the course is one lane of the road shut down so no worries about vehicles and plenty of volunteers/officers directing traffic with some shade.  the bike can be a little crowded but overall it's not horrible.

It is a very spectator friendly event with plenty of time for your supporters to see you on the course.

Great post race breakfast is stacks cremebrule french toast.

Thanks for the heads up and insight.  The race is still on according to Setup Events.  Excellent news, especially for creme brulee french toast fans.

Very confusing, especially as to what has happened here.  I got an email reply from setup last week that it was still on, and now it's apparently cancelled per their email this morning.

Well this has turned into quite the mess.  According to their own email, Setup Events has already paid the registration fees to Go Tri Sports for participants registered on or before March 14th.  According to Setup events, John Dogger of Go Tri Sports will supposedly be refunding those fees directly.

Anyone else caught up in this?
