Olympic tri without wetsuit?  doing the June Naylors beach tri.  Did olympic aqua bike last year as 1st multi sport. Doing olympic tri this year.  Considering doing swim without wetsuit.  What do folks think? Race site says water temps run about 71 this time of year. Thanks, Tony

Personally, I would want a wetsuit if it's wetsuit legal.  I don't do well in cold water.  The river conditions are hard to read right now.  A lot of OWS practices/ events have been canned cause the current is too strong or water too high.....debris and all that cause it's been so wet.  How comfortable are you with being cold for up to half an hour?

I did my first Oly without a wetsuit. Too cheap to rent or buy. Water was 64 degrees. I was certainly in the minority, but it was fine after the first 100 yards.

I've made the suit investment since then... more for the speed than comfort.

I am not doing this race. But here is my 2 cents worth.

Anytime it is wetsuit legal I wear one.

First it is faster. Just under a minute per 500 meters for me.

Second, more buoyant. You will almost float especially in salt water.

Third, warmer. I personally am a wimp in cold water.

Fourth, peace of mind that you can rest for a second or two if needed.

Fifth, no kicking and save legs for rest of race.

Sixth, protection form jellyfish or other sea creatures.

For Olympic distance l would guess 2.5-3 minute saving. Maybe 15-20 seconds to take off. So net saving of over two minutes.

If it's legal, I would wear it, especially for an Olympic.  If it were a shorter distance, I might not, but I think it will provide more benefit at this distance.  I completely agree with all the reasons previously mentioned.  Why are you considering no wetsuit?
