Subject: tri top chafes under my arms

Guys -

I chafed under my arms last season from armswing on the run in my tri top last season. I was rubbing back and forth over the seams.

Has anyone else had this problem? Not sure if my top was too small and creeping up or if I should look for one with larger arm holes.

Use a little body glide or similar

Some tops are now using an anti-chafe design that seals better for non-wetsuit swims and lays more precisely against the skin.

Not all tri tops are created equal, and the better ones use fabrics like Schoeller Coldblack, a cooling fabric that keeps the wearer measureably 4 degrees cooler than the ambient temperature.

Better use of new generation mesh fabrics and new designs of arm openings are greatly improving the triathlon apparel we wear. Once you wear a nice tri top, tri shorts and tri suit you're spoiled:

I always use body glide in that erea. I would definately tri a different top on a practice run, see if that helps.

It also may be your arm rubbing against your lats.  I thought for years that my bra was rubbing me, but no.  It was my lats.

Hope you find the right shirt for you.

And, I have found that I sweat body-glide right off.  Vasaline stays much better for me, but it will stain your clothes.  Better armpit marks than bleeding chafes, though.

I had issues with my desoto forza tri suit last year when i wore it for my HIM. Everything was great, EXCEPT i chaffed bad on the arm/armpit area. dont know if it was the suit, or the fact that it was my first non-wetsuit swim and i didnt bodyglide, but it was not fun afterwards. i'd never had any irritation issues before, but then again, all my other tris had been wetsuit legal freshwater.

I had this happen last weekend.  I did a 6 mile run in a tech t-shirt and my arms rubbed against my lats and twas tender for a few days.  I'll use some anti-chafing cream there next time.
