Pre-race routine:

Left the house by 7:15, this is already better than I normally do! Stopped for a short coffee on the way. Found everyone in the parking area, again already ahead of previous years!
Got everything but my bike into transition. Pumped up the tires.
Event warmup:

Ran about a mile with Jennifer, then hopped on my bike and rode almost two miles to the AK Native Heritage Center and back. Then got my bike put into transition area and headed to the pool. Warmed up 300, got out to go pee, came back and found new lane, did some kicking and swimming. Then there was a quick particpant meeting as we waited for the start.

  • 500 yards
  • 01m 34s / 100 yards

Concentrate on arm pull, etc...
Transition 1
  • 02m 30s
Comments:

We didnt think it could get any worse than last year but it did! I was doing good, had everything and was taking off then realized I needed to put my gloves on before I got on the bike so I was balancing my bike and trying to pull my gloves on. Good got them on and took off again. Oh no! I forgot to zip my jacket. So stop again and fumble to zip it bcuz now I have my gloves on! How stupid can I get! (You dont have to answer that.)
What would you do differently?:

Practice...
Maybe not wear a jacket or at least partially zip before I even put it on!
Have to wear gloves so I will just have to figure that one out.

Post race
Warm down:

Came in, got chip removed, got water, hugged family. Tom showed me swim splits. Stayed around transition area for awhile watching for Cyndy to come out. Got to see her take off. Went and checked in for volunteer duty at T2. Checked w/Rob to see how others were doing. Looked like they were doing good.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Focus!!!

Event comments:

I rated this race as best bcuz the comraderie and support each participant receives is the best. It is a good fun atmosphere. Even sweating at T2. Post race activity is average about all there is watching others finish. However, Carol & Cathy set up a great area for our team to hangout and that gets above above average or good rating!
Sun came out and that really helped too. I think Carol & Cathy arranged that too!

Good job on your race!!!!!   Yeesh, you are a speedy runner!  I can't even imagine doing a 7-something min/mile pace.

Probably a stupid question, but does it ever get warm enough up there to do open water swims?  Just curious?

Anyway, thanks for sharing your race!

Thanks for checking out the race report! It was a fun race! It was very "Alaskan". I didnt mention in my report but it was reported a couple of runners got stopped by a black bear passing the trail and somewhere in the woods but near enough the road to be seen on the bike course a moose cow gave birth to a calf during the race!

Our open water triathlons start in June. The first one this year is a sprint tri on June 25th and some brave souls swim this one without a wetsuit. However our half ironman in July a wetsuit is a must. I always prefer the wetsuit in the openwater!

Check out our tri club events listed throughout the state. http://alaskatriathlon.org/schedule.htm

Maybe someday Alaska will work into your schedule!

Good luck with your triathlons this summer.

Ever find a gold nugget? Large amounts of people want to find and possess the gold nugget, but it i sreally hard if you don't use a tool to hep you find such kind of precious metal as they are always buried underground and it is hard for you to know where they are and how deep you should dig. And that is the main reason that why the metal detector for gold was invented and have help people a lot in hunting for gold nugget, and it seems the gold metal detector is realy an reliable device.
