Subject: Tri bike advice needed please
hi, I was thinking about waiting till next season before buying a tri bike, but this listing popped up on craigslist, and I could probably afford this one now:

They are asking $1000, but said it's negotiable and I was hoping I can get it down to $800.
They said it's about 16.5 lbs. This description is from the ad:

Simonetti TT / triathlon bike, 49cm. Lightning fast, very light, Campy Chorus groupo with Cinelli 'cockpit', Profile carbon fork, Campy Shamal tubular wheels. Excellent condition, never crashed.

I haven't seen it yet, going to test drive it on Sunday. I never owned a tri bike, and never ridden Campy. I currently have a RED Leader road bike with Ultegra components. I like it, but I would like to own a tri bike especially if it'll make me faster in my races. Sounds like this one is pretty fast (it's RED after all), but I think it's almost too cheap to get a good tri bike for that...

What do you think:

1) Would it be a good buy?
2) Would $800 be a good price for it?
3) Am I better of saving some money and buying more expesive new tri bike for the next season?

The seat tube angle looks too wide. The entire bike is aluminum, it looks like a stiff ride. The aero-bars look super aggressive with how low they are. If you can't put risers in there, you are screwed. I can't tell what wheels they are, but they may be pretty good. Also it's missing pedals. I honestly would pass it up, especially if you have any plans on a HIM or IM.

Look instead at this bike for an entry level ride: http://www.feltracing.com/06/06_triathlon/s32/

Haven't heard much about those...I would stick to Felt, Cervelo, Quintana Roo...there is a reason why they are so popular. I got a closeout QR Kilo for $889.

Simonetti is a fairly well established, though small, European-based (and thus roadie based, for the most part) brand. As some one already said, the seat tube angle looks pretty shallow, which would be in keeping with the brand roots.

THe question is, though, would this bike FIT you? If the answer is not a definite "yes" or "yes, I can make it fit me easily" then pass it up.

Also, do you want to mess with tubulars? Not that swapping wheels is such a huge deal, but is that the place you want to start from?

Thanks for the feedback!
I think I'll try it and see how comfortable it is.
