Sorry about your accident. Glad that your injuries weren't more serious. As alluded to above, what a great story to reinforce the importance of helmets.

Seriously, can I use the pic and story in my office to help educate some kids about bike safety?

Thanks for all the encouragement folks. I'm torn between giving a big symbolic hand gesture to the driver (in the form of completing my tri anyway), and never riding the bike again. For now i'm keeping busy discovering new things that hurt every few hours! Feel free to share the helmet pic with the doubters out there. It is truly a lifesaver. I hope that I will be back with a race report soon. Jim

Glad to hear you are (basically) okay!

Let us know the damage to the bike. Did this driver at least stop and see how you were/report the accident?? If this was another hit and run I would be pissed .........

OMG I'm glad you're ok!

Just as I was originally reading this post yesterday, I got a call from my BF who had been out on a group ride/run.  Seems they had to cut their training ride short because one of the riders pulled wide on a turn and hit the white stripe and went down.  Cracked his helmet in two and was unconscious for about 5 minutes.  Fortunately, they were about 100 yards from the fire house, and the paramedics were there within 30 seconds.

I hope you're up and going again quickly!

I get so angry when I see people riding without a helmet.

Just think of them a potential ORGAN DONORS!!!

Glad to read there were no serious injuries.

Take a tip from HANGLOOSE on here and put a kids horn on your aerobars, that might help next time.  Just a thought.

Jim,

Thank heavens you had that helmet on. So many people take it for granted that it will not happen to them. We buried a 15 yr old this week who was riding a skateboard at night and veered into an oncoming car. He would have been fine but sore if he just had been wearing a helmet.

Sorry about the bad news...I hope you recover quickly and can find a good replacement race! I saw a guy riding a very nice bike yesterday through town listening to headphones with no helmet on and I couldn't believe people are so negligent and careless with their own health. I'm glad you know better...let this be a lesson to all...glad you weren't hurt worse and I hope the drivers insurance pays for your bike and bills.
