Yesterday while riding a car made a left turn in front as I was traveling through an intersection with the right of way. Well, that is what they tell me. Next thing I remember I was in the emergency room getting an MRI, xray, etc.

The good news is that my injuries are limited to soft tissue damage (bruises, roadrash) and a moderate to sever concussion.

The bad news is that I will most likely be unable to compete in the Tupper Lake HIM next month. Also my bike is completely demolished.

Thought I'd share a pic of the bike helmet that saved my life

Wow.  I'm glad you're OK!  (Well, OK-ish)

Might want to look into a new helmet...   Really sorry about the bike.

I see so many people riding without a helmet.  I am so glad you were wearing yours.

I get so angry when I see people riding without a helmet.

I'm so glad your injuries weren't more severe.

Get well soon.

WOW! Save that helmet and give it to a local shop to display as a reason WHY you should wear your helmet.

Hopefully you'll bounce back soon.

That is harsh! Just glad you are OK....so to speak. But the helmet wins a big award. Nice save!

Bell has a crash replacement program btw @ 30% off retail. Just had to replace mine last week.

I am sorry your HIM is out, but sure am glad that you are okay.  You could be the poster child for bike helmet safety.

Is the driver's insurance going to pay for your bike, helmet, etc.?

Good luck to you!

Thankfully the helmet did it's job!

Sorry about your accident and may you heal quickly. Did the car stop? Get a ticket? Bummer about your HIM!

Just today someone at work told me about a 11 year old boy hit by a speeding teenager in their neighborhood and wasn't wearing a helmet yesterday. He had to be medi-vaced out in a helicopter and has a cracked skull...could be much worse...expected to recover though.

Glad you are ok, well kind of ok. You make me feel lucky about my two car bike crashes being bruises and cuts only with really no damage to my bike.

I hope you do not have any post concussion problems. I had two concussions when I was young and had blackout and dizziness problems for around 10 years.

Let us know about the insurance questions others have asked. I am ready to buy a $5 raffle ticket to help you out and I sure many others BTers are too.

Yeah, thanks for posting your story. Good reminder to all of us to ALWAYS wear a helmet. I actually saw a dude riding a bike this morning wearing a motorcycle helmet...looked funny, but there's a guy that thinks safety, first.

Thank God you're okay.

Keep us updated. How are you feeling?

Holy s***...I am glad you came out of it with no serious injuries.  I am going to show this to my boys as a good example of why anyone should always wear a helmet while cycling.

Holy crap man, that is intense. I'm glad you are OK for the most part. I had an accident last week and thank God I had my helmet on too. Nothing compared to yours though. Even after the sightest accident you should replace your helmet. I just got a new one today. You'll be back in business soon and better than ever.

Jim, I went through the exact same thing 2 months ago.  Helmet saved my life.  I separated my shoulder pretty bad, but I have recovered since.  Take some time off, and then get back at it!  Glad to hear that you're ok man.

What is the deal with DumbA$$ drivers?! AARRGGG I'm glad that you were wearing your helmet and it saved your life. When I see people without a helmet, I always yell out and point to mine. I don't care if they are 12 or 50..I've seenboth. Hopefully, the driver wasn't as much of a heartless winch as the one that hit Joel and they stopped.May the BT gods watch over all riders!!

In the words of adventure bear, please campaign for helmet safety when you can - you are living proof! Thank goodness you are okay. Sorry about the bike!
