OK, so this tiny detail bothers me a bit in an otherwise stellar race experience.

I did TriRock Annapolis yesterday, which was my first OWS tri last year. I've been crunching the data to see how much better I did than last year. Bottom line - great!

But here's an annoyance. The results are broken into two sets of results. One is normal AGs, the other is everything else. So, Clyde/Athena, Military/Public Safety division, and relay.

The problem is, there's no overall ranking for anyone in those categories. I can see pulling the relays from the overall, but why the individual "special categories?" I won't take it personally, since they did it to military/PS too.

So being the geek I am, I combed the results to see where I would have placed in the overall AG, as well as the military/PS division, and figured out my true overall spot.I really doubt I'll do that for each split, but just the overall.

May not seem like important info, but if a 40year old male in the 40-44 AG can see his overall, so should a clyde or a soldier.

I was bottom 1% last year. I was bottom 12% this year. I call that serious improvement. It wasn't that hard to crunch the data myself, but as it's all digitial, I don't see why they didn't list the Clyde/Athena and Military/Public Safety divisions as age groups unto themselves (like most places) and include them in the overall results.

Some races do this.  Some combine all.

I agree, I think this should just be standard practice to see where you finish in the overall, even though some of us are broken out into another category.  I understand that some do, and some don't, I have no idea of their systems with certain races, but I do think it would be nice to be able to find out where you fall in the overall scheme of things, not just your category.

It won't show up in the "official" times, but pretty easy to just plug your time into the overall standings, no?

Yeah, and that's what I did. Found the place before and after me in overall, and the military lists, to create a "true overall."

Actually though, this listing of AG has OA rankings in each record, but not an OA list as it is, so I still had to scan for a while to find a close time, then confirm it was the closest by finding the next place and seeing if it was after mine. Not a hard process, just time consuming, but I am a total numbers geek, so I certainly found the time to do it.

If this is important to you, then don't sign up in a "special" category.

The races I have done that had a Clyde group treated it just like all the other divisions for the overall, and broke out for the individual groups as well. I had not seen one that did not include everyone in the overall standings. If you finish, you should be included in the overall.

I don't sign up in Athena, because I like to compete and test myself in my AG.

I found that, too, in my first one a month ago.  Sure, you can do the math yourself, but it's irritating.  I suspect it's a setting in the tracking program and likely the click, or lack thereof, of a button.
