I ordered a pair of Shimano tr31's and found them a size too small so I sent them back to the place I bought them for a size bigger, they just called and said shimano is out of stock of size 47s of that shoe so they offered me an upgrade at a discount. My two choices are:

Specialized Trivent Sport for 90 bucks

    Shimano tr52 for 150 bucks

I don't have experience with either of these so if any of you do I would love to make an informed decision!

any chance there's a local bike shop that stocks them so you can go compare the two?

Darn, I was hoping to get the answer to whether or not I can wear my white tri shoes after labor day.  Now that's a shoe dilemma.

well the LBS doesn't stock shoes my size, feet too big. For what it's worth, I decided to go with the Shimano tr52, hope I made the right decision!!

Another question..

Could I use bike shoes without the clip in pedals? I know it's only an extra £40 to get the pedals but they're not a necessity yet.

Cheers

This is not good news for me!  Did you find the TR31s a size too small as compared to your other shoes, or did you just happen to order a size too small?  I just ordered these shoes through my sponsor and I wasn't sure of the fit so I guessed on size... fingers crossed!

The Specialized Trivent sport are decent shoes, for shoes under $100 list price.  I started with them, and still use them on occasion.  However, at 180# I can flex them pretty easily.  I get hot spots or numbness after about 15 to 20 miles normally.

I hope the Shimanos work out well for you.
