Subject: Men's Wetsuit - Top only suggestions

I do mostly sprints and Oly distances, so my preference in the past has been to go without a wetsuit.  Now considering a wetsuit top just to take the edge off on those chilly swims.  Anyone have a recommendation?  I have been looking at the AMP3 by Hyperflex, but honestly don’t know enough about the various brands to make an informed decision.  Thanks!

Get a swimming wetsuit, not a surfing one. They're different beasts.

DeSoto makes swimming tops.  That's what you need.

 

Getting a surfing top wouldn't be conducive for swimming imo.  It'll slow you down and most of them won't keep you that warm anyway.

Even a swimming top like the DeSoto is not meant to be worn alone.  It'll float your upper body / sink your legs, which will slow you down, unless you wear the whole thing.

Sounds like what you may really want is a shorty like this one.  Promotion has some most sizes available right now on sale for $89.

Consider a full wetsiut (a triathlon one, not surfing/watersports), quite simply they are faster (worth 1:00-1:30 in an Oly swim).

 

If you just want a little warmth, consider the De Soto T1 tops (you can always buy the bottom later and make a full suit), or the De Soto Speedtube; it's a bottom that will help float you legs, while providing some warmth.
