Interesting study that tested the effects of high-carb vs high fat diet prior to exercise

"the present study demonstrates that feeding isoenergetic meals containing different proportions of carbohydrate and fat can markedly affect the contributions of carbohydrate and fat to energy expenditure at rest, as long as 4 h after the meals. However, the pattern of substrate oxidation during exercise is very resistant to alteration despite variations in substrate availability in plasma."

Looks like their study showed no difference in athlete performance, regardless of pre-workout meal makeup; high-carb, high-fat, fasting...didn't seem to alter performance. The study seemed to suggest that the body is very resistant (or tolerant) during exercise to fluctuations in substrate components in the blood. These findings, they admit, are different than previous study results that suggested high carb meals provide better performance. They also say more work needs to be done to further investigate these findings.

That's what I got out of it.
