I was thinking of heading up to AC this weekend for a mountain bike ride, followed by a practice swim to cool off, but with the holiday weekend, I'm thinking the beach could get crowded. Are there bad times to plan to swim? Should I swim first, ride later?

Also, I'm on the west side and looking for something a little more convenient if I'm tight on time. Is there anywhere in the Dublin, Hilliard, UA or Grandview area for an open water swim? I need more OW practice.

I was swimming over memorial day weekend last year and you have to go out pretty far to dodge the masses in the water. it's good sighting practice tho! I would bike first early then swim..just plan on being done before 11 am or so.I don't know of any other places to swim OW other than alum creek. I will prob be in the water around 8:30 on Saturday.

Let me ask a sort-of related question also: How do I keep from getting sick/a sinus infection after an OW swim? Should I wear a nose plug? I tend to get water in my mouth a little when I breathe. It would make my swim inefficient, but should I be lifting my head higher to breathe (and see)?

Do you always get a sinus infection when you swim?  open water and pool?

I haven't done Wendy's so I don't know the course.  I will be riding north of Delaware- prob out to Ostrander/Magnetic Springs this weekend.  I did this ride on Tuesday and it was pretty nice- good rollers:  http://www.westervillebicycleclub.org/files/maps/tuesdaymagnesticsp...

Approx. how long is one length of the beach in the swim areas?

No sinus issues in the pool and not always in OW, just sometimes. I did some reading on oil of oregano to help with sinus problems, but I learned that I can not take it (makes me insanely sick to my stomach for days). Bummer.

When I swam in a straight line the other day with my GPS in my swim cap, it came down to 600 yards between the 2 swim area buoys.  Your mileage may vary a bit based on how straight you swim.
