Hey everyone!

My Name is Mike and I recently joined Beginner Triathlete and have found it exceptional... I have however found that there's been a whole lot of talk about older folks getting involved in the triathlete scene, which is fantastic. I however am a University student... so I don't quite qualify for the 'over the hill' category. I'd love to hear more from students or younger people not unlike myself who figure out ways to balance class, work, and the massive amounts of play I cherish so much. I've been doing my best to get into a new routine but its hard work and It'd be great to band together and learn from each other... Let's not let the 'more experienced' forget it's tough being a kid too.

Mike,

There's plenty of younger BT'ers also.  I'd like to think I'm one of them, but the gray hair says otherwise....
And yes, this is an exceptional website.  Good luck on your training.

I'm not a youngin' either, but I work, go to school, have a 2 y/o child, and a house to take care of.  My biggest time management tip is to get rid of the TV!  I just don't have time for it anymore, and if I want to train and do my homework, then the TV has to go.

Best of luck with your training.

Welcome to the site! I'm 31, so not a youngster either, but there are a few around here. Good luck with your training!

I'm a college student from CT. I did my first tri a few weeks ago. Although I'm not taking classes right now, I was full time for the spring semester and i was working a lot. I've found I just have to figure out what my day to day priorities are instead of trying to stick exactly to the training schedule. Its different for everyone, there's been some workouts I've skipped b/c I had a paper or an exam, but I've given up complete immersion in some of my assignments to hit the gym or go for a ride. I'm not a professional triathlete, I started this because it was something to work for, now I really like it. I have a lot of time ahead of me to train and do tons of tris, I just try to keep that in mind. I find the hardest part is sacrificing the nights out b/c I really WANT to train in the morning instead of waking up with a wicked hangover. I can't imagine having to work training into a real life schedule w/ work and a family, HUGE respect for you who do that!!! Have fun!

welcome mike.  get it done with in the morning (early) if at all possible is my best advice...but u will be needing a triple shot of espresso for that 8am class.

good luck with the scheduling.  something i repeatedly fail at.

I have found the answer to the TV problem - TIVo!!! It is the greatest thing in the world. I am working on my masters, working 40+ hours a week and tri training. I TiVo my favorite programs and then can catch up on them during the weekend, if I have more time. I have come to find lately thought that I don't really miss TV all that much.
