Are they going to change the name of the race to "Beach2NearTheBattleship"?  I understand why they made the change, but it loses a little something not ending next to the ship itself.

Pretty cool.

From that map it looks like you actually run on the boardwalk (actual wooden plank boardwalk directly on the Cape Fear River) from the convention center to Ann St. In a way I would prefer if they somehow did a complete loop of Greenfield with additions as opposed to an out and back. The triangle that goes up Yaupon will actually be a climb. It is not some crazy climb, but compared to running on East Lake Shore it is a decent little hill. Wisteria on the way back should also be an up, although I have never actually run on it.

Nice little route overall  and easier without the bridges, especially for the Full.

That has been said/asked many times. You will actually have a better view of The Battleship from the Finish with the new ending, and will be able to see the ship for your whole run along the boardwalk. In my opinion you will now see far more of the Battleship while competing and will have more of a view of it as you Finish.

So from my point of view it is as much if not more the Beach 2 Battleship with the new course.

I don't remember seeing the battleship as I was struggling along on the second loop of the run a couple of years ago...:-) I think it is great they got off that island. It created a lot of logistical issues and the run to/from the island was pretty ugly (those 2 or so miles over the two bridges). The rest of the run was fantastic and really atmospheric, so now it has more of the scenic and less of the ugly. I like it. I also like that this time I only have to do the course once (hehehehe), with my main worry being just how fast d00d and qrkid go flying by on the run, assuming they haven't already done so on the bike!

I guess I'm the one who has to do it twice :-(   I have to agree with Louie on the logistics; hopefully this change is a good thing!

having done the Half last year, Im excited for this change and moving it downtown.. I didnt, or should i say i dont recall even seeing the battleship last year, too busy hoping to survive and finish..also think this will encourage an even greater support plus making it much easier for families and locals to cheer everyone on and become an even bigger part of it.. but i do get the purists point of not actually encompassing the Battleship but for me its minor.. JMO

Edit: also , thanks for the post and heads up of the Run course being available..

x2. I am so happy about this change....no waiting 2 hours for a bus. Woo hoo! And cool as the battleship is (got my wood from last year), I too did not give it much thought as I was finishing the half.

Put the course in Training Peaks and it looks like there are 2 real steep (but short) hills.  I'm somewhat famaliar with the Front Street and it is a nice little climb as you move away from the water.  Has anyone run the route yet?

I run down on the waterfront and around Greenfield lake almost daily. The only steep climb I know of is as you turn left off of the riverfront and go up Ann St. and then turn right on Front St. That is a steep little hill, but only about 125yds long. You will have to do this twice if you are doing the Full.

There will be a little uphill section when you turn left off East Lakeshore up Yaupon (this is the little triangle addition on the run map) It is about 300yds up Yaupon and is a gradual uphill.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
