Subject: The Paleo Diet is it too late to start?

I've been contemplating the paleo diet for a few weeks and now I'm kicking myself for not have started it already.  My first sprint triathlon (i've done mini's before) is June 23rd and I wanted to be in the best shape of my life for that race but I don't feel that way at all.  I've been doing the rockin' wellness shakes for my breakfast and been training and since Jan I've went from 157-174 (26 yrs old, 5'10), I am not happy.  Granted I went from no muscle to some muscle but after battling weight loss its very hard to see that number go up.

Is it too close to my triathlon to begin the paleo diet?  I've done the master cleanse before and honestly I still have issues smelling maple syrup so is there another cleanse you'd recommend?  I guess I'm just looking for some suggestions or advice.

Thanks in advance!

I don't know if I'd jump into wholesale paleo right now, but you can start making relevant changes.  For starters, back off or eliminate most grains/breads and have more real vegetables. You're almost certainly eating way more carbs than is necessary to support your training.

I agree.  Eat more whole foods and less processed foods but I'd wait until after the race to go paleo.  I was fatigued and my performace suffered for about a month when I first made the switch to paleo.

It's never too late to start eating real food and to stop eating junk.

If you want to try Paleo and train you could try the Paleo for Athletes which has food intake timed to training. You eat strict Paleo all the time other than right before or after workouts.

Have fun at your race!
