Subject: IT Band stretches?
Does anyone know of any IT Band stretches or strengthening exercises for the surrounding knee joint muscles? I think mine might be getting slightly irritated, (the outside of my right knee is just a bit sore) and I fear that I could end up with ITBS. I don't want to sound like a whiner, but I figure that I would be better off to prevent something that might not be an issue rather than ignore something that is.

Any help is greatly appreciated. THANKS!

the first stretch on this page with a photo is the one i've used with incredible results.

I've never had and ITB trouble since incorporating it into my stretching program but you HAVE to do it correctly.  be sure to read how to properly use the foam roller and you'll be amazed at the results.

Here are some additional sites I found helpful as I battled my ITBS just recently...

Get stretching ASAP. I had this last year and it needs to be treated early and conservatively - ie don't run if it keeps getting worse!

I stretch by lying on my back, knees up, feet flat on floor, then lifting one foot so it's across the opposite thigh. It will induce a pulling sensation deep in your butt - that's a good thing!! ITBS is caused by the deep muscles in the butt area - piriformis and gluteus medius, pulling on the ITB.

 Good luck!
