No because I train how I race and it would be very hard to drink during the swim part of the race.

No, but I was thinking of wearing my fuel belt just to see the reactions of the others.

Depends on how chlorinated the pool is.  Sometimes it can dry my mouth out quite a bit and I just want to rinse the taste out.

Depends on how I am feeling, air and water temp, and workout.  And often whether I remember it

I don't quite get "I don't drink in a masters workout because I won't drink in a race and I train like I race."  Unless you are in open water, I get that, but swimming in a pool is not nearly training like you race (and shouldn't be....  you should be doing set...  in my opinion    )   Drinking water during a 1 hour 3K masters workout should not have any effect on your - my - ability to race a 1/2 hour HIM or 24 minute Oly (or even 60 minute IM) swim.  If you need water during a workout, intentionally depriving yourself doesn't seem like such a great idea to me.

Just my .02 on the topic.

Yes. My swim sets go better if I drink a little water throughout. -J

(Currently, my swims are no shorter than 1hr.)  I do not drink while swimming.

I usually bring a water bottle with a 50/50 mix of Gatorade and water.  I'll take sips after long sets, particularly on hots days.

I'll also use the bottle as a practice sighting target, particularly as I get closer to races.

Always at Masters practices.  I noticed when I first joined that I was getting headaches during practice.  A bottle of G2 fixed that.  I also make sure I have a small snack before practice too - has made a world of difference for me.

If the swim's longer than 4K or so, yes. But I've done up to 3 hours in the ocean without water, so it's not strictly necessary (for me). However, I stay incredibly well hydrated, probably more so than most people, at all times. I don't just pay attention to hydration in the week or so before a big training weekend or race. I'm always well hydrated.

This made me smirk.  Juicy!

Nhmountainman - 2012-06-11 6:35 PM I seem to drink plenty of pool water during my workouts...so I don't bring my own.

x2. I'm afraid to think about how much I really drink, because I have to pee a lot after I get out.

You could save yourself a trip to the bathroom if you just peed in the pool.

Always. The pool I frequent isn't exactly on the cool side though, so the habit might change in a more properly regulated pool.

I only swim about 1800 yards each workout, so no. I chug water when I'm done swimming.

I just drink the pool water because I know I will be helping to refill the pool about 3/4 of the way through my workout.

Ahem. Notice the bold font and underlining. I planned ahead.

I should and my swim instructor recommends it, but I always get so full of pool water I cannot drink another ounce. I finally experienced overly warm pool water on a day we did sprints. When I got out of the water to listen to instruction, I had that same feeling of of heat coming out from within that I get after running hard, which tells me I was probably sweating pretty hard. I was very thirsty after that swim session.
