My 66 (in triathlon years in case she is reading this) year old Mom won her age group today in her first sprint duathlon. I am so proud of her.

She came last year and watched/cheered at my first IM and was so inspired by the athletes and the environment of the race that she decided to take the plunge. Now she is talking about swim lessons and giving triathlon a go.

I think she has lost about 15 lbs training for her race and looks great. Again, a very proud son. Congratulations, Mom (I told her to check out this site so maybe she will see this).

WOW!  What a great story and such an inspiration!  Way to go mom!  I have always said that the people who inspire me the most at the gym or at the races are the older (if I can say that?) age groups who are still kicking it!  I see the Grandmas and Grandads out there and I say "I want that to be me some day!"  I LOVE it!!  They are the BEST role models out there!

That is so cool. Seeing people like that out there still rocking it are so inspirational.

Sometimes  I think triathlon is aging in reverse. Stronger, healthier, and broke again

x100 congrats to your mom, and to you for being an inspiration to her.

And very nice race last weekend. Kudos to you for stopping to help with the situation with that woman. Hope she is ok.

I posted this over in my mentor forum but thought you might all get a chuckle out of it as well.

Yeah, very proud of her. She worked really hard to get ready for this race and did great.

I'll tell you a little funny/troubling story: I was out running and came up behind a woman running in a jog bra/tri shorts. I remember thinking, "she's in pretty good shape"--in a totally non-lecherous way. Imagine my surprise as I caught up to the woman and realized it was my Mom.

She had a great race and told me that she could see how it would get addictive.

I am totally jealous of her for winning at her first event. I guess there are some real advantages to aging up......

Now you'll have to cross "bad genes" off your list of possible excuses going forward.

That is fantastic!  My Mom and Dad have also gotten into triathlons this year...it has without a doubt been THE highlight of my season.  It's really cool seeing them get so excited about training and racing.  Congrats to your mom on taking the plunge, and having success!
