Subject: Running with bike shoes or clipping to pedals
After watching all the pros at CapTexTri run with bare feet and hop on their bike and then get their feet into the shoes while riding, I decided to finally get some advice on this. I tried it a few times during practice and I was horrible at it. Very off balanced and could not steer very well. I am 6'1'' and I would like some help in order to use this tactic at my next tri if possible. Am I making this too hard?

Thanks

Keep practicing.  Try to pedal with your feet on top of the shoes to get some momentum going.  Then get one foot in.  Spin again to maintrain momentum.  Then get second foot in.  It will be easier to steer/balance when the bike is moving faster.

What kind of cycling shoes do you have? I found it impossible with road shoes, very easy with tri shoes.

The shoes I have are DMT compitition with one larger velcro strap. These are tri specific shoes I am pretty sure.
