Event warmup:

Didn't really warm up at all... had a long walk with bike from parking to Transition area, it was hot outside, used that as my warmup... also waded in swimming area before line up and swim.
Swim
  • 07m 26s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 29s / 100 yards
Comments:

I had a hard time watching where I was going, however the swim seemed to go fairly well!
What would you do differently?:

Not much. I'd say this was a pretty good swim for me. Would like to utilize freestyle more often... I did at least 50% of this swim breaststroke, which, for me, is almost as fast as freestyle!
Transition 1
  • 02m 12s
Comments:

Didn't use cycling shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Would have brought energy gel with me on the bike ride.
Bike
  • 54m 10s
  • 16 miles
  • 17.72 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike ride went well. I pushed it pretty hard, but HR felt good, and I didn't feel like I was over doing it.
What would you do differently?:

MORE water... I need to learn how to take water while riding bike, instead of having to stop all operations and take waterbottle and drink. Also would have used a Carb Boom energy gel. I only took 1/2 a packet in T1.
Transition 2
  • 01m 53s
Comments:

T2 went ok.
What would you do differently?:

Should have used an energy gel.
Run
  • 52m 39s
  • 4 miles
  • 13m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

Terrible.
What would you do differently?:

Everything. Majorly bonked. I think I'm going to stop using HR monitor so religiously, as I've slowed down considerably, even while racing.
Post race
Event comments:

My only suggestions would be to have more drink stations, and larger cups... maybe some Gatorade in addition to water. Also mile markers on the bike and the run would be helpful, as I'm convinced that run was long long longer than it should have been!!!!

Course: Long hot terrible course along the banks of the Fox river... Several people I've spoken to said they thought the course was long. (Longer than 4 miles, as advertised) Times seem to indicate the course was long. I wonder if they counted the distance we ran from T2 through the parking lot, and down the street to get to the path...?

Congrats on your race. I'm not good enough on the bike to drink and ride at the same time so I can sympathize!

Nice job on your race. Like you, I too had a challenging time on the run. I think my fluid strategy helped though. While on the bike, I only drank gatorade. By the time I hit the run, I had a good supply of energy and only neede to supplement with an occasional cup of water. Just a little something that works for me. ;-)
