Corey07 - 2012-06-24 12:09 PM That's a little rougher ride than I had anticipated. Throw in the temps and I can see this race being a bit of a beat down.  Laughing

As I mentioned before, I have done that race twice, 2008 and 2010, the hardest race I have done after Branson. This year I am no show as I have not trained for it, will not even poke my head there as if you are not ready for it, it can be a suffer fest. Luckily, it is short.

OK Aleks, I'll buy the "not trained for it" routine but you and I both know you could podium the sprint if you showed up.  Thanks for giving ME a shot though, LOL

I know you are going to do well regardless who shows up. I am after that long course race. I like battling Schloegels, Wilsons and alike. It is fun even though I mostly loose. So long course is what I like there.

I have not been nearly as good in the last two years as I was 2008-2009. In 2008, I missed overall podium by a little, good swim, fast bike and not so hot run.....typical . I trained a fraction what I train now, but it was all short and fast work. I have lost that balance and drifted away 2010/2011 with some sporadic results and one huge plateau, couple of over training episodes that really set me back. I failed to recognize that more is not always more.

I will be at Racine on 07/15 for 70.3 race than Vegas and finally Redman/ LC Nationals. Half Ironman is my distance, my old body likes that moderate speed, going fast hurts, I leave that now to young studs.

I wish you all a great race, I will be reading this thread, always willing to share what I know about that course and type training required to do it really well.

Looks like I will be out for this race. In an effort to squeeze in two centuries in July in prep for IM Lou, the first is scheduled for the day before this race. I will try and be there to support you guys.

Sounds like someone is way too regimented in his training schedule.  Just tack on the ride after SMP as a cool down.

Problem solved.

Were you registered already?  If so, maybe you can throw together a relay, do the swim or run only.

Not registered. Although I did hear on Monday there were only 40 slots left. So if you haven't registered I would suggest doing so ASAP.

Torture in this heat.
I don't blame Jon, I did the same thing in LOU prep last year. Skipped out on most races in lieu of getting in my long rides way too early in the morning to beat the heat. Yuck.

Yuck is right.  This schedule and heat are brutal.

Not sure why, but signed up today.  Race really wasn't on the calendar, but got the green light from home and charge card in hand.

Might ride there over lunch today to get some hill thrashing.

Woo hoo.

Jon, Reece, Mark, and I are planning a ride and run Sunday if you or anyone else is interested.  We are shooting for about 8:30, but are still trying to confirm everyone's availability.

Starting off in the Marina parking lot?

I'll have to see how many credits I have for personal ventures during on-duty hours.

As far as the sprint swim I know it starts at the beach does it go clock wise past the boat ramp then turn right the another right back to the ramp or is it a straight swim from the beach to the ramp.

It's more of a J out and back course.  Start at the beach, swim straight past the dock/boat ramp, U turn and head back to the boat ramp.

Talked to a friend of mine at Johnson Country Parks & Rec. said that the bike racks are numbered, I didn't realize that from last year.  Also, they will be "fencing" off the transition area, he says it will have a more professional look this year.  Last year there were people walking into transition while competitors were still out there.

Did everyone receive their confirmation letter?

Got the letter.  Doesn't say anything about when the first wave goes or what the order is going to be.
